Glulam, short for glued laminated timber, is a type of engineered wood product. It’s made by gluing together multiple layers of solid wood lumber with high-strength adhesives. The grain of the laminations runs parallel to the length of the member.
Glulam is stronger than steel and can carry more load than a same-sized beam of regular timber. It’s also less than 10% the weight of steel and 1/5 the weight of concrete.
